Laser Wakefield Photoneutron Generation with Few-Cycle High-Repetition-Rate Laser Systems

Simulations of photoneutron generation are presented for the anticipated experimental campaign at ELI-ALPS using under-commissioning e-SYLOS beamline. Photoneutron is a three-step process starting with creation relativistic electron beam which converted to gamma radiation, in turn generates neutrons via ?,n interaction high-Z material. Electrons accelerated energies laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) mechanism. The LWFA simulated three-dimensional particle cell code generate an bunch 100s pC charge from 100 mJ, 9 fs helium gas jet target. resultant spectrum transported through lead sphere Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) convert electrons gammas and single simulation. A neutron yield 3×107 per shot over 4? achieved, corresponding kW 6×1011 n/s/kW. paper concludes discussion on attractiveness LWFA-driven high impact, societal applications.
